Everybody Needs a Hero
He said, "Everybody needs a hero.
I guess it had to be me this time."
As in all times
And all moments,
Things come, and things go
But through it all, I know.
Everybody needs a hero,
And looking back, I know he was.
For he was the one who did it "just because,"
And dared step forth alone;
He dared to take the future on,
He dared to push us to higher ground,
And braved the sorrow I know he found.
Years passed, and still he came,
Though through trials passed, it was no longer a game.
Necessity made him do it,
But I know pride was there too.
He had to face it, or run away,
And running he’d never do.
He gave all for no reason,
Or at least it seemed so at the time.
He gave us actions and we received them,
Never knowing or seeing the signs.
But time flies by like winds through the leaves
And future becomes present, present becomes past,
His life becomes legend;
Some things are forgotten
Even or word or in song.
Now he’s gone,
Though maybe someday we’ll meet again.
And for now I go on,
I’ll see it through to the end.
For I know this is how he’d want me to be –
And this is the future he fought to see
Everybody needs a hero,
A hero he will always be.
